And now it has landed in the magical hands of Carme Portaceli, known for her ground-breaking adaptations of Mrs. Dalloway and Bovary with Michael De Cock at KVS.
 
Terra Baixa presents the story of Marta, a poor girl from Barcelona, who becomes the mistress of Sebastià – the most important landowner of the Catalonian lowlands. Sebastià needs to marry a woman of standing to secure his lands and his inheritance. To suppress rumours of his relationship with Marta, he makes her marry the completely unsuspecting Manelic, a youthful shepherd from the Pyrenees. He houses the young couple in the miller’s house in the city. Marta soon becomes torn between her long-standing, dominant lover and her new, caring husband.
