Meet Ilyas Mettioui: Brussels artist, Jack of all trades, occasional writer, occasional actor, director, … His work mainly focuses on new encounters and on mixing up styles and collaborations. After the well-received Ouragan, we are happy to present the diptych Écume: Knokke-le-Zoute & Hofstade, a hybrid project of travels and encounters centred around ‘fate’.

In Hofstade, theatre creator Ilyas Mettioui gathers a group of youngsters on stage. They long for independence and freedom, and look for it in a fictional setting. They dig for different versions of themselves and play around with roles that have been cast upon them by their social environment, roots, and socio-economic background. They tell the story of a refugee. What if the lake and the artificial beach turn into the Atlantic Ocean? What if they build a sailboat to brave the waves?
