During this academic year, the students of Conservatorium Antwerp, KASK Drama Ghent, LUCA Drama Leuven and RITCS Brussels are diving into the Greek classics. The cherry on top of this intense study period is a residency at KVS: for two weeks, the four most important drama schools of Flanders are taking over the theatre. If you are unafraid of experiment and can’t wait to discover the theatre creators that will be making waves in years to come: this is your chance.

After the staged reading on 8 February, the students take it a step further: they bring the texts to life on stage with dramaturgic support. Actors take free rein with the original texts, adapting them as they go. They all work with the translated texts. Johan Boonen is one of the most prominent translators of the Greek tragedies in the Dutch-speaking world. His widely praised translations of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides were collected into one edition, published last year by Bebuquin. This exercise culminates in two showcase moments.

On 12 February the students of LUCA Drama Leuven and RITCS Brussels show us how the Greek classics inspired them. LUCA Drama Leuven takes on Trojan Women, while the Brussels students set their demons loose in Antigone and Medea.

On 15 February it’s time for the students of Conservatorium Antwerp and KASK Drama Ghent to take to the stage. The Antwerp Conservatorium gets under the skins of the Trojan Women, Agamemnon and Elektra. The students of KASK Drama Ghent chose to be inspired by the Greek tragedies more generally and named their performance PLEASE PANIC
