Does he carry prejudices so self-evident that he no longer notices them? Does he, as an author and director, corroborate the patriarchy that rules cultural life in the Congo? And what do female artists have to say about that?
With these questions as his starting point, he set to work on a new creation: Neci padiri, which loosely translates as ‘Yes, my father. Yes, my father.’
On stage, four crazy musicians create a mystic Christian orchestra that wants to find out the sex of God. The only woman on stage, irritated by the Bible’s masculine vision of God, objects. But how can you fight the patriarchy when it is the foundation of entrenched laws and rules all around the world? Or: how can you be at peace with yourself, when you notice your own similarities and discrepancies to the latent patriarchy?
Michael Disanka lives and works in Mbanza Ngungu in the RDC. In 2011, he graduated from
