Rise Up: Poetic Memorial 2022
Rise Up stands for the city’s resilience, strengthened by encounters. After a trajectory of pre-workshops in various neighbourhoods, organisations and associations, participants from all sorts of backgrounds unite for a weekend-long multilingual poetry workshop, led this year by slam poetess Marie Darrah. The results of the workshops can be witnessed on 31 March in Muntpunt.
Marie Darah (they/them) is a rising star in the Brussels slam constellation. During the last edition of Rise Up, they coached the participants on their way to the stage. Marie is a multidisciplinary artist who sings, acts, writes and slams, and is genderfluid and vegan. They published a booklet at Maelström entitled Depuis que tu n’as pas tiré, balancing between story and slam. In their artistic activities, Marie regularly questions the notions of open-mindedness and equality in order to reach a new equilibrium and forge their own path in life, only to find that the road leads straight to a roundabout of intersectionality.
