The “Space for reflection on the contributions of (art) diasporas in the creation of resilient, inclusive and democratic societies” is designed to be part of the Programme of the “Próximamente Festival” and shall be an exercise of co-creation by the EU-LAC Foundation, KVS and all participants as well as visitors of the festival.

This space aims to encourage artists, cultural professionals and civil society to share their migration experiences while discussing the challenges and opportunities related to becoming part of their host societies. We will inquire on the role art can play in bringing people from different cultural backgrounds together, fostering mutual understanding, promoting bonds and actions of solidarity, and empowering people in finding their space in society. The event also seeks to identify existing promising initiatives and local policies that facilitate diaspora communities with the means to contribute to the development of inclusive and resilient neighbourhoods – in Europe, as well as in Latin America and the Caribbean. Departing from the shared experiences and practices at the local level, we hope to also draw lessons and gather insights into how such inputs could also be taken into account in the design of meaningful cooperation programmes at the level of the EU-CELAC partnership.
