Mimi’s Shebeen is a new poetic dance theatre production by KVS face and artist Alesandra Seutin. Through dance, poetry, singing and music, Seutin takes the audience into the depths of a deconstructed shebeen* and on a journey full of life: of struggle, perseverance and determination.

After Michael Disanka had finished writing his theatre text À demain ma mort, about resistance fighters in recent history in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he wondered how come he had only talked about men. Were there no heroines in this story? 

Director and theatre creator Lisaboa Houbrechts writes and directs a family epic that spans three generations. She looks back at the lifetimes of her grandparents, her parents, and her own generation.

With A in the role of B, when C didn’t make it, choreographer, performer and theatre creator Ehsan Hemat has come up with a concept in which various generations meet on stage. 

For Jaouad Alloul, the provocation for this performance was the moment when a Member of the European Parliament with an anti-LGBT agenda was caught – mid-lockdown – at a sex party for gay men. It uncovered a level of hypocrisy and power abuse that needs to end urgently. Venus in Libra is a manifesto, a dialogue, a radical act of resistance against everything conservative.

About ten seconds, that’s all the time an average museum visitor has for a work of art. In 11 Seconds, Charlotte Bouckaert joins her audience to look at one single picture for the entire duration of the performance: a photo of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

No time has passed in a hundred years: feelings of impending doom, exhaustion from the speed of technical development, hopelessness. 

A repertory play could not be more topical: the environmental scandals close to home, the manipulative mechanisms of political decision-making, the struggles of whistle-blowers... Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People analyses it all. But his wry comedy also shows the personal consequences of fighting for one's ideals
