Lisbeth Gruwez’ lauded triptych of the ecstatic body is a triptych of trance. Gruwez dives deep into our patterns of thought and our subcutaneous sensations, but resurfaces every time. In the spring of 2022, you’ll have a unique opportunity to experience these three performances in one day at KVS.

In It's going to get worse and worse and worse, my friend, Lisbeth Gruwez gives shape to the archetype of the great orator. Rather than zooming in on the content of his rousing words, she dismantles the passionate ecstasy in which he finds himself.

Five bodies encounter one another in a place without a name, perhaps in the middle of the night. According to the rhythm of the circumstances, they slowly grow closer, just as rubbish is sometimes blown together on a deserted street. But their alliance gives them unexpected strength. They find one another in one of the most animated forms of human expressions: laughter. Their encounter becomes a dangerous feast of communal ecstasy.

WE’RE PRETTY FUCKIN’ FAR FROM OKAY

The basic principle of the show is the concrete physiological impact of fear. In We're pretty fuckin' far from okay, fear is studied as a biological phenomenon, not as a socio-cultural sensation. Not as acquired behaviour, but as evolutionary developed answer to the question "to fight, flight or freeze?" In We're pretty fuckin' far from okay 'nature' beats 'nurture' - although they are sometimes each other's nursing enemies. Lisbeth Gruwez – this time without Wannes Labath – zooms in on what fear does to a body: she incorporates the haunted look, the accelerated heart rate, the shallow breathing. According to her, fear is a body in trance, reduced to its instincts.
