In J’ai pleuré avec les chiens (I Wept With The Dogs), five female performers slowly hypnotise an audience. At the work’s core are concepts like transformation, femininity, physicality, rhythm and trance. Ashbee seeks to celebrate lightness, physicality and pleasure, freeing herself from all forms of violence. Working with dancers, audience, soundscape and design, she creates a constantly evolving landscape – one with violent lows as well as highs of renewal and delight.

Ashbee is known for her highly personal and powerful choreography. She began to create her own work aged twenty-two, and her pieces are based on the images in her mind, on her body, on her experience as a young woman, and on her conscious and subconscious.

Dance Magazine called Daina Ashbee an international talent to watch, and in recent years she has been a welcome regular at KVS. Following Pour and Laborious Song, she now presents her latest piece, co-produced by Festival TransAmériques, KVS and others.
