Sukina Douglas
Sukina Douglas is a poet, spoken word artist, actress, writer and one of the KVS faces.
Sukina Douglas tours worldwide and has led poetry workshops in countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, Sweden, Morocco and Belgium. Her goal: to inspire people with the power of words. She co-founded the British hip hop duo Poetic Pilgrimage and the spoken word collective Nana.
In the 2016-17 season, Sukina made her acting debut in KVS’s successful production Malcolm X. KVS also asked her to lead the Rise Up poetry workshops. This ambitious project took the unique approach of bringing Brussels residents from a range of different backgrounds into dialogue with one another through poetry.
Sukina Douglas is now an associate artist of KVS and wrote her first theatre play entitled Afropean // Human Being.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Creative Writing for therapeutic purposes. Sukina Douglas did a TEDx Talk in Antwerp on the healing potential of poetry.
