Julien Carlier
Golem
Golem came about through an encounter between dancer/choreographer Julien Carlier and sculptor Mike Sprogis. In this dialogue, these two artists from different disciplines and generations shed light on the analogies between their respective artistic practices (sculpting and breakdance). The performance homes in on the relationship between shape and shaper, thereby emphasising the influence both artists have on each other.
Carlier was first introduced to dance through breakdancing. Since 2015 he has been creating his own choreographic work, which has become more international throughout the years. He is currently resident choreographer at Charleroi Dance. His work is anchored in concrete encounters, practices, lived sensations, etc. He is interested in the transition from reality to the theatre, and views the body as a medium and a witness of this transformation.
