In a desolate, dark inferno, based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, faceless individuals dwell. In a play of perception and interpretation, the spectator is swallowed up by this bare land of creatures in the throngs of a dance of despair, past what makes them human. In SCAPEGOAT, the young director Ferenc Balcaen investigates the changeable boundaries between pain, love, and eroticism, using the vocal identity of the performers and inspired by a broad range of auditive sources, from Gregorian chants to contemporary vocal techniques.
