BILL CALLAHAN: SOLO RESIDENCY (VS)

Y-E-S! ‘One of the greatest songwriters alive’ (The Washington Post) komt opnieuw naar Brussel! Naast Parijs (Cafe De La Danse), London (het prestigieuze ICA, Institute of Contemporary Arts) en Dublin (The Button Factory), landt Bill Callahan ook in de Brusselse KVS. Callahan – die steeds koppig zijn eigen pad uitstippelt – besloot dit najaar naar Europa af te zakken en slechts in een viertal Europese hoofdsteden halt te houden. Op het menu: telkens een meerdaagse residentie waarbij Callahan slechts vergezeld is van zijn gitaar en heerlijke baritonstem.

Zijn puur ingetogen songwritervakmanschap kruipt na al die jaren nog steeds onder je huid. Denk maar aan klassiekers als 'Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle' ('09) of 'Apocalypse' ('11). De jongste jaren leek hij productiever dan ooit met kwaliteitsvolle albums als 'Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest' (2019), 'Gold Record' (2020) en 'YTILAER' (2022) Deze laatste werd wederom – en terecht – overladen met lovende recensies:

Opener wordt de Texaanse songwriter Jerry David DeCicca. Tevens producer van ‘outsider’ songwriters als Ed Askew (Tin Angel), Chris Gantry (Drag City) en Will Beeley (Tompkins Square), En omdat hij erop staat het te vermelden: “He lives in the rural town of Bulverde, TX with his two dogs, three cats, five toads, and wife.”
