PROJECT EUROPE: the voice of our classics
The Spanish La Compaña de Teatro Clásico (CNTC), in association with the Instituto Cervantes, is touring Europe with the fourth instalment of the project The Voice of Our Classics, which means this theatrical event can also be seen in Brussels, Lyon and Milan. Come and listen to extracts from classical Spanish literature, from Don Juan to Don Quixote!
Three experienced CNTC actors, Marcial Alvarez, Natalia Huarte and Pepa Pedroche, accompanied by the musician Juan Carlos de Mulder, will offer us several of the more important passages from La vida es sueño and El alcalde de Zalamea by Calderon de la Barca, El perro del hortelano by Lope de Vega, La entretenida and El Quijote by Miguel de Cervantes and Don Juan Tenorio by José Zorrilla, the bicentenary of whose birth is being celebrated this year. The novel Don Juan Tenorio is a milestone in Spanish Romanticism and although the main character, Don Juan, started out as a human character, he ultimately became a universal myth.
This poetic and dramatic journey through our classics – directed by Helena Pimenta – emphasises the excellence of the word in verse and prose, and reveals points of contact between themes past and present: love, freedom, fear of loneliness, the desire for power, the responsibilities of a ruler and the search for happiness.
The performance is free, but we do ask you to enrol in advance using the adjacent link.
