Book launch Vertel het iemand
War is blind, especially for those who don’t belong in it. The young Amazigh, sent to the French front at the breakout of World War I in 1914, finds himself in a world where nothing is as it seems. He writes down his experiences in a diary: the story of his youth, the cruelty of war and the racism of his officers. He pays a high price for the latter when the contents of the diary are used against him in a court-martial trial for high treason. In prison he is visited by a man, to whom he tells his story. The man is his father, a Frenchman who followed the French military through Morocco to draw and explore the country.
Vertel het iemand is a gripping novel about how people can never really know each other. Lamrabet writes her characters lyrically but without mercy as they set on their search for an unreachable truth.
Introduction by publisher Harold Polis. Birsen Taspinar discusses the new novel with writer Rachida Lamrabet. Actor Rashif El Kaoui brings the pages to life. Fatoum provides the musical backdrop.
